Mill Cities Relays, Vaya Con Dios, Bro

Our Athletic Alliance Running Club, has a great bunch of teams heading to Mill Cities Relay tomorrow, ready to represent for Manchester. Our team is “Vaya Con Dios, Bro.” Hat tip to those who recall the early 90s reference. (I’ll bet my friend Coakley recalls it…)

Kudos  to James Porter for the singlets. Clue quote for those still not getting it: “We stand for something. We are here to show those guys that are inching their way on the freeways in their metal coffins that the human spirit is still alive.”

Apropos for a bunch of loony club runners tying up traffic on a Sunday morning!

Speaking of clubs, Mill Cities is a club race, that means it’s open to members of clubs that belong to the Mill Cities Alliance. Check out the list of clubs. I mention this in order to advocate that if you’re a runner but not in a local club, try it out! And not just so you can run this invitational race. More because it’s a great way to plug into the local running community, have a chance to do some good, take your training up to the next level, and find a bunch of people who won’t think you’re crazy or vulgar if you start a conversation with the sentence, “I was doing fartleks yesterday at lunchtime…”
