Since Kris is now napping on the couch in front of the wood stove, I get to write the first blog post about her first half marathon (though I won’t steal her fire by retelling too many of the stories – just wanted to post some of these pictures). She finished the 13.1 miles of the Half at the Hamptons in Hampton Beach, NH, running strong, with a big grin on her face and high fives for the kids as she passed us at the line; awesome, especially considering her longest long run prior was 10.2 miles (this has been a tough winter for training).

She was also undeterred by a bone jarring, hand-bloodying spill on the course. But her toughness wouldn’t surprise folks who know her (no drugs delivering David or Isobel). Anyway, I couldn’t be prouder. Awesome day for a race – blue skies and temps in the high 30s.

The kids had an awesome time eating Sunday brunch with MM (mom’s mom) and playing on the beach while Kris raced, and then after while she cooled down.

On a final related note, next weekend Kris and I are heading out to Hyannis so I can run the marathon there. It was nice to spend this weekend thinking about her race instead of mine. Been a crazy training cycle with winter, and I have no idea whether I’m better prepared for this one than Portland, or worse. Making me jittery. Don’t suppose it matters. The running is what counts. Just hoping it doesn’t snow (too hard!).

Good luck in Hyannis! It has been a tough winter.
Congratulations Kristen on finishing and even smiling as you crossed to finish line! Great job!
Hi, I was just searching for the Hampton results and came across this website. If you were the person getting your hand taped at the first aid tent at the end of the race, I was the guy that asked if you got into a fight
Anyhow, congrats on your first half and hopefully there will be many more to come!
