Mark Cuban included this tidbit in a recent blog post entitled “Tech & Misc Ramblings“: “On the topic of newspapers. Once they all declare chapter 11, they can get their cost structures in place to support far lower readership levels. At that point, probably less than 5 years and working from a low revenue base, we will be talking  about the renaissance of the newspaper business. It won’t ever reach pre internet levels, but it will be considered a ‘new growth business’.” Nice to hear some optimism!  Also, thanks Mark, for increasing “the number of magazine and newspaper subscriptions I get. Its a matter of principle.” Hopefully, you’re starting a trend.  Personally, I think renaissance is much less than five years away, and I smaller papers with little or no debt won’t need to delcare chapter 11 in order to get there.
