Mulling over some resolutions for 2009 during my run today. I came up with a long list of ever more complicated resolutions, many with clauses, appendices and exemptions, some with deeply-nested if-then statements. Embarrassing, I realized as I sat down to type them into this blog post. And boring for the reader. So here’s the list with everything superfluous removed, the core list. In the end these are all as much petitions as a resolutions, but then again, what resolution isn’t? In 2009 I resolve to love tirelessly, listen well, pray daily, run fast, work hard, play exuberantly, and live presently. Happy New Year.

What a wonderful list! a recipe for joy, saisfaction, and contentment.
Also, I love the pic of you in winter gear. Today I went for a walk with Jadey wearing: 3 pairs of pants,2 pairs of socks, 2 shirts, a wool sweater, a fleece vest, a thick fleece jacket, 2 scarves and 3/4 length down jacket. And 2 hats, 2 hoods!
Hey Ana, thanks! I hope it will be. Sounds like that was a nice warm walk, despite the wind and bitter temperatures!
I love how most of those adverbs can be shifted, and still remain a list of goals to which one would aspire.
For example, listen well, pray daily, run fast, work hard, play exuberantly, and live presently can become listen presently, pray well, run daily, work fast, play hard, and live exuberantly.
Of course, exuberantly would work for each verb, and wouldn’t that be something!?
Great point, Sean! All of those would be great exuberantly! And of course if I’d disciplined myself as a writer when I wrote it, I might have just left out the adverbs altogether.
Ah, but leaving out the adverbs sounds like a mundane “to do” list. The adverbs put the passion, thoughtfulness, constancy and excellence we aspire to into the things we need to do every day!
