Yesterday’s snowy long run provided two positive results to experiments that I thought worth sharing. First, I found out that if you fill your water bottles up with hot water and wear them inside your shell, they won’t ice up. (They froze solid on me the week before.) Not sure if I made this up or just read about it and forgot that I’d read it (probably the latter). Either way, it worked great, and the hot water felt great under my shell at the outset of the run. Second, sugar cookies are awesome mid-run fuel. On the way out of the house for a 16 miler, I realized I was out of Gu, granola bars and any other portable runner food. Then I saw the sugar cookies Kris had made for the cookie swap and pocketed three. The high calorie combination of sugar and butter (x2!) gave me one heck of a kick at mile 9 and mile 12! And aesthetically they were perfect for a pre-Christmas run through an, ahem, winter wonderland…

Great advice on the water. I had mine freeze last weekend. Got a little dehydrated by the end of the run.
