New Episode of House of Burdens Posted

Kris and I just posted a new episode of the podcast. Today, as Kristen enters early labor (!!!!) we chit chat about, well, labor, the medicinal properties of raspberry leaf tea, traditional home remedies in general, the Go Red Campaign, Paste magazine, Eucharistic adoration and prayer and silence  in general in a busy, media saturated […]

The Telegraph Wins Newspaper of the Year … Again!

Here's a link to a blog post by our editor, Nick Pappas.  He writes: "If you think you've already read this posting before, keep reading — it just seems that way. After being named Newspaper of the Year last month by the New England Press Association, another New England news organization has bestowed a similar […]

Podcast In Spanish For Learners

Here's a podcast, SSL4YOU Spanish Segunda Lengua, I found in the comments section at the last site I posted about. It's in Spanish — but Spanish spoken slowly and distinctly enough to be of use for learners of a number of levels… Have only listened to one of them…. but they seem well produced… [Repost […]

New Language Learning Resources – Podcasts

Came across this Trying To Learn Spanish blog and podcast the other day. While I was actually looking for somethig with Spanish language in it — for listening practice, I subscribed to the podcast anyway and gave it a shot. I'm glad I did; the discussion was interesting and the tips excellent — many plenty […]

Protecting Online Reputations, Newspaper Comments Sections

This post from the NAA Digital Edge blog does a nice roundup on the legal liability of newspapers in terms of offensive, libelous comments posted by readers on forums or as article comments.  "In general, newspapers with online forums and article-commenting features have disclaimers in their terms of service or policies that the newspaper is […]

Multitasking Not All It’s Cracked Up To Be

Saw this in the NY Times today and it reminded me of the results of all the research I did on project and time management earlier this year.  The point, certain kinds of multi tasking slows you down.  Which is why I check email during specific blocks of time, and why I don't use IM […]

Nice tutorial on Windows Movie Maker and YouTube

Here's a cool tutorial (with examples of YouTube uploads at different settings) on the best settings for exporting video via Windows Movie Maker for playback via YouTube. The gist: 320×240 at 512KBS. (Which is the Video for Broadband 512KBS setting in Movie Maker.)

New House of Burdens episode, thoughts on podcasting

Kris and I did another episode of the podcast yesterday morning.  You can listen to it here.  A few technical observations: We've switched from GCast free podcast hosting service to Podomatic's free hosting service – huge differences in social networking tools available (email messaging, audio comments, friends, etc.), as well as a pretty strong stats […]

Whacky promotional ideas…search with Kevin? Google is trembling…

Kevin Federline (Britney Spears' ex) has launched his own branded search engine – http://searchwithkevin.prodege.com.  He's giving away prizes to random searchers in an effort to promote his acting and music.  Strange days in search, commoditization, branding, marketing… hmmm.

Lent Revisited

This has been an amazing Lenten journey this year — which I'm not feeling eloquent enough to explain without descending into cliches, so I'll skip that for now.  There are two weeks and some days left in the season.  So while we're waiting for Easter, I'm going to repost the piece I wrote at the […]
