We finally spent a day catching some of the Barresights that have been on our list since the day we moved here (almost ayear ago now!). The Rock of Ages quarrytraces its roots back to 1885. Barre is famous for its granite — ithas the best monument stone in the world, and also highly prized formaking high precision bases for industry. The tour involves a briefstop at the visitors center and then a bus ride through the boneyardsof granite scrap and up the hill to the working quarry, where you getout of the bus and peer through a chainlink fence into a hole that’sbeen under construction for more than a century. It’s pretty awesome.Sofia wasn’t impressed, but David just snuggled up against Kristen andstared and stared. After, we stopped back at Hope Cemetery.
