Jeff Jacoby on Boston.com looks at the strange glorification of Hunter S. Thompson’s suicide and concludes:
"Whata striking contrast there is between Thompson’s tawdry death and theexcruciating struggle of Pope John Paul II, whose passionate belief inthe sanctity of life remains unwavering, even as Parkinson’s diseaseslowly ravages him. Meanwhile they extol Hunter Thompson and are itching to know –are his ashes really going to be fired from a cannon?"
